Events are probably the biggest need for volunteers. The great part about volunteering at an event is the atmosphere of passionate curlers at the club. Curlers around the state and nation come to our events, and some even cross international borders. These events are important because they are a significant part of the club's revenue. It's also the best way to encourage our members to stay connected with other clubs. Events usually fall into one of these categories: state or national events, annual events, and Learn to curl events.
State events bring curlers together from across North Dakota and typically rotate sites each year. Some of these events such as the club and junior competitions send the winners to compete at national levels. This year Grand Forks is hosting the North Dakota state senior bonspiel March 6-8.
Learn to Curl events are a fun way to introduce the sport to new people and potential future members. The club has started offering organized events open to the public and these events require volunteers to assist new curlers. If you are interested in assisting during these events, watch for emails asking for volunteers. Don't worry about your individual skills in being an instructor-- your enthusiasm in the sport is much more valuable for new learners! If you later choose to become a certified instructor, the USCA has a program to train you in the process
Our ice crew is all volunteer, and though there are only a few individuals who are trained in running the ice scraper, there are other ways volunteers can help make and clean the ice. One occasion is when we put in the rings in lines at the beginning of the season. If you are interested in helping, watch for email requests for volunteers.
